Check your insurance. Your fallen or damaged trees might be covered!

If you have property damage due to fallen/damaged trees after a storm, and have insurance covering that property, it is best to record it and get in touch with your insurance company quickly if you plan to file a claim. Some insurance companies have preferred arborists that do their storm work, while others may let you arrange it yourself, especially if it is urgent. Knowing how your coverage works and what it covers can save a lot of stress in the aftermath of a storm.

How much will it cost for storm cleanup?

It depends on several factors including:

  • Size of tree
  • Type of damage
  • Ease of access to clean up the tree
  • Vicinity to houses, hydro lines and other obstacles
  • Safety

When you shouldn’t do storm cleanup yourself. . .

Cleaning up fallen or broken trees after a storm yourself can save money. However, there are times you should hire a professional. Here are some things to consider:

  • Are the trees close to hydro lines?
  • Do you have safety gear?
  • Do you know how to safely operate a chainsaw safely even in adverse conditions?
  • Will you have to climb into the tree? Using a chainsaw from a ladder is VERY dangerous
  • Is the tree on top of a house or car? A crane might be required to remove it gently and prevent further damage.
  • Though not really a safety factor, our heavy duty wood chipper makes cleaning up easy!

Please hire a professional- even if it’s not us-if you have a dangerous situation.

Storms test the strength of our trees, and thin out the weak ones. One of the benefits of having an arborist come out after a tree has had storm damage is that we can look at why the tree broke where it did and if only one part broke, how much risk there is of the rest of it failing later on. If a tree has been up-rooted it is important to us to look at why that one failed, and if other trees in the area are likely to have the same issue.

“They carefully avoided damage to close fences and underlying plants were barely disturbed.”
