Don’t choke your trees
Be careful about having anything wrapped around your tree’s trunk.
The sap is the life blood of a tree, and the portion of it that has been enriched with plant food by photosynthesis travels from the leaves to the roots in a layer just under the bark called the phloem. This layer, if compressed, is damaged easily. If sap isn’t able to travel through it carrying nutrients, the tree will suffer and eventually die!
If you have to attach to a tree to hold it straight with a cable or for some other reason, use a wide, soft strap so as to dissipate the pressure. Wrapping a cable or wire directly around the tree applies a lot of pressure on a very small area, and is very likely to damage the layer where the phloem sap flows, literally choking the tree.
